Origin The origin of firearms is uncertain and confused. But it can be said that the inventors of firearms came from ancient China. A wide variety of firearms with gunpowder have been developed there since the 11th century: bombs, grenades, rockets, and also flamethrowers made of bamboo tubes. They were also the inventors of fireworks.
According to tradition, according to a chronicle from 1440, it was the work of a certain Berthold Schwartz, called Berthold the Black, a German monk from the Freiberg monastery. Schwartz would have poured an explosive mixture into a covered pot, which he then placed on a stove. The resulting explosion would have thrown the lid violently against the ceiling. 
 This fact gave the monk the idea of bombardment. Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify this history as the archives of the Freiberg Monastery were burned during the Reformation.
